OU812

About

OU812 is a US startup that is creating a cooperative of highly motivated teams of startups, universities and small inventors that as a team can fairly compete on equal footing with the large corporations or Goliaths. Team members include startups, universities and small inventors operating in an open innovation and intellectual property rights (IPR) sharing environment, along with being provided with legal, marketing, and support teams.

OU812 teams are based on the philosophy called “team cohesion” (i.e., where each team member cares more about his/her teammate than him or herself), as applied to  startups, universities and small inventors. OU812 has team members from all over the world and our philosophy also is based on Sisu, a Finnish term loosely translated into English as strength of will, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of extreme adversity.

Problem

The Problem:

Although startups generate about 75 percent of the jobs, the large corporations or Goliaths control about 99 percent of the world’s wealth. The desire for open innovation in startup and university environments can lead to copying when intellectual property rights (IPR, patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets) are not protected. However, IPR protection and related legal remedies are often too expensive for startups, universities and small inventors to take advantage of and thus favor the Goliaths.

Solution

Our Unique Solution: Open Innovation with IPR sharing:

By assembling highly motivated teams of startups, universities and small inventors, such teams can fairly compete on equal footing with the large corporations or Goliaths. Team members include startups, universities and small inventors operating in an open innovation and intellectual property rights (IPR) sharing (e.g., patent pooling) environment, along with being provided with legal, marketing, and support teams.

Benefits

Benefits to Startups and Universities:

By teaming up through OU812, startups, universities and small inventors can ensure that their intellectual property rights (IPR) are efficiently, and cost effectively protected and shared (e.g., via patent pooling) in an open environment within technology clusters (e.g., gaming, cell phone apps, bio-tech, etc.). Such shared IPR can spawn innovation and new products, which can be used as a vehicle for sale, licensing and product development bringing value and revenue to the team members and driving further innovation.
